Email received 3/16/2019 from Jacques Damestoy, a monk at Belloc. |
- Father Benedict, had been sent for the first time to the Mission of Palestine, in 1901. In 1907 he was elected Visitor of the monasteries of the French province. During World WarI, he was in Damascus and Beirut. In 1919 he became vicar general of the abbot general, then elected abbot general in 1920, for a term of 8 years, therefore until 1928. Then he was apostolic visitor of the Melchite monks in Palestine. He died in Beirut on August 13, 1936, where his funeral was celebrated. His mortal remains were transferred to the monastery of Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, but this monastery closed in 1950. It is currently the Abraham House, managed by Caritas, for the reception of pilgrims. There is a plaque commemorating all the monks who were buried there, but I do not know where the bodies were transferred after the closure of the monastery.
